The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association issued official comments on the Proposed Rulemaking to Update the Procedural Provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act today. The organization applauded the effort as “welcome and long overdue.” The proposed rule would streamline and modernize the National Environmental Policy Act, which has all too often been used by opponents of responsible land management to halt progress, derail science-based decision-making and delay federal action indefinitely across a range of issues. Among the proposed rule’s features: ensuring more timely and easy-to-understand documents, earlier and enhanced engagement with direct stakeholders, uniform processes across agencies and the recognition of the economic impacts, not just the environmental impacts, of federal action or inaction.
