North Dakota Stockmen’s Association’s Feedlot Tour will make stops near Wing and Goodrich

The 21st annual North Dakota Stockmen’s Association’s (NDSA) Feedlot Tour will be June 27 at feedlots near Wing, N.D., and Goodrich N.D. The tour stops will include Vollmer Angus Ranch and the Kirby Steichen hoop barn. Bus transportation will be provided to and from the stops. The bus will depart from Kist Livestock Auction in Mandan, N.D., at 9 a.m. and will make a stop at Cenex in Sterling, N.D., at 9:30 a.m. and then return to Sterling at approximately 4 p.m. and Mandan at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Here’s a tour preview:

Vollmer Angus Ranch near Wing will be the first stop on the 2023 tour. Owned and operated by Allen and Bev and Troy and Sara Vollmer and their family, the feedlot is a bull and heifer development facility for their Angus seedstock operation. The feedlot was constructed in 2019 and is permitted for 999 head. It features an indoor processing facility, multiple holding ponds, a center-line feed system, as well as a single-line feed system. Additionally, the facility includes lighted pens, a curbline feeding system with an adjustable neckrail and concrete heavy-use pads.

The final stop on the tour will be the Kirby Steichen hoop barn near Goodrich. Owned by Kirby and Heidi Steichen and their family, this facility is comprised of a state-of-the-art hoop barn. This hoop barn is 62-feet wide by 448-feet long and was permitted in 2021 for 600 head. Steichens background and finish cattle in the hoop barn. It features a one-of-a-kind hydraulic processing facility, controlled remotely to reduce stress on animals, a bunkline and a manure stacking pad.

The NDSA Feedlot Tour, a project of the NDSA Feeder Council, includes a lunch. There is no cost to attend.
