LIVESTOCK INDEMNITY PROGRAM
We know that the past few days have been incredibly challenging for many of you as the historic blizzard ravaged much of our state. We also know that it compounded what was an already-difficult fall. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you dig out and work to get things somewhat back to normal on your operations. We know the to-do lists are long and the stress is high, and we pray that conditions improve and that we are all able to collectively catch our breath soon.
While we do not know the extent of the losses yet, we do know that, amidst the snow, wind and rain, livestock perished in the weekend’s storm. The Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP), administered by Farm Service Agency (FSA), does provide some assistance for weather-related livestock losses. Remember to document your losses, keep appropriate records and file a notice of loss with your local FSA office within 30 calendar days of when the loss is first apparent. There are additional rules and deadlines after that point.
Here is a link to a short fact sheet about the LIP program: www.fsa.usda.gov/Assets/USDA-FSA-Public/usdafiles/FactSheets/2019/livestock_indemnity_program-fact_sheet-july_2019.pdf
If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to contact our office at (701) 223-2522.
